"Maximize number of leads" optimizes your campaign to get the highest volume of form submissions — best for top-of-funnel goals like building an email list. "Maximize number of conversion leads" optimizes to reach people who are most likely to convert after submitting their information (e.g., booking an appointment or making a purchase). The latter works best when connected to your CRM data via the Conversions API so Meta can learn what a high-quality lead looks like for your business.
Without CAPI for CRM, you cannot select the "Maximize number of conversion leads" ad set goal. However, even without CAPI, Meta uses predictive models (such as lookalike modeling based on previous customers and interactions) to identify quality users — but the full benefit comes with CAPI CRM integration.
No, CAPI is not required to run Lead Ads. If you're using Instant Forms and optimizing for lead volume, you can collect leads directly on-platform without any pixel or CAPI setup. If you want to optimize for lead quality using Conversion Leads, CAPI for CRM is strongly recommended — it sends your downstream conversion data (e.g., qualified leads, closed deals) back to Meta so the system can find more people like your best leads. You can still use Conversion Leads without CAPI, but results will be significantly better with it. For website lead forms, a pixel and/or CAPI is needed to track on-site form submissions.
If you are setting up Conversions API for CRM, then yes, the pixel is needed. If you are not using CAPI CRM and are just collecting leads via instant forms, the pixel is not required.
Several options: (1) SMS Phone Verification — require leads to verify their phone number via SMS before submitting. (2) Require Work Email — enforce corporate email addresses. (3) Add Custom Questions — adding more questions (especially open-ended ones) qualifies leads, though it may increase CPL. (4) Higher Intent Form Type — adds a review step so people confirm their info before submitting. (5) Conditional Logic — use branching questions to filter out unqualified leads. For special ad categories like Housing, the same tools apply, though some targeting restrictions may limit additional options.
It depends on the advertiser and requires experimentation. Adding more questions is a great way to qualify leads, but it could increase your Cost Per Lead. The right balance between friction and volume is specific to each business.
You can run them in the same campaign, but you will need separate ad sets — one optimizing towards Instant Forms and one optimizing towards Website Leads. Alternatively, you can use the "Multiple Conversion Locations" feature to select both "Website and Instant Forms" in a single ad set, and let Meta's delivery system automatically route each user to the form type they are most likely to complete.
They can complement each other rather than compete. Some users are more likely to fill out an instant form (low friction), while others prefer going to a website (higher intent). Meta's experiments with advertisers show that using both instant forms and website forms together can result in up to 60% lower CPL and 125% increase in lead volume compared to using just one. The best-performing lead generation strategies use both.
You can use the "Multiple Conversion Locations" feature at the ad set level, which allows you to select both "Website and Instant Forms" as your conversion location in a single ad set. Meta's delivery system will automatically route each user to the form type they are most likely to complete, without splitting your budget.
There is no suggested targeting difference. Meta's experiments with advertisers indicate that there can be a performance increase from using both instant forms and website forms together. Meta's delivery system handles the routing automatically.
There is no strict minimum, but best practice is to generate around 200 leads per month with a conversion rate between 1% and 40%. The more events you send, the better Meta can optimize. A very small sample size limits Meta's ability to optimize effectively, so make sure you send the complete data set of events and lead stage changes via CAPI CRM.
With the Salesforce integration, when you set up the Meta Conversion Leads App, you map your Salesforce lead/opportunity stages to Meta events. When a lead's status changes in Salesforce, the app automatically sends that updated stage event back to Meta via the Conversions API. For other CRMs, the process is similar — you configure your CRM or a third-party tool (like Zapier or Make) to send a "Lead" event with the updated stage name whenever the lead progresses. We recommend sending all down-funnel actions/stages, and then when you create a Conversion Lead Campaign, you choose which stage to optimize towards.
Conditional logic filters and qualifies the lead — it does not change who sees the ad. It creates a dynamic form that responds differently based on a person's answers, so you can collect the most relevant information and route or disqualify leads based on their responses. The ad delivery/targeting is separate from the form logic. However, when you combine conditional logic with Conversion Leads optimization and send the qualified lead data back to Meta via CAPI CRM, Meta's algorithm will learn over time to target people more likely to give qualifying answers.
You cannot completely disable auto-fill for standard pre-fill contact fields (like name, email, phone). However, you can use custom questions with open-ended text fields instead of the standard pre-fill fields, which forces users to manually type their information.
Yes! With instant forms, you can configure a custom audience from forms and select "opened and submitted," "opened and didn't submit," or "opened form regardless of submission." For website forms, you can set up a "start form" event and send it to Meta, then exclude users who converted.
For instant forms, you can see leads submitted in your reporting. For tracking form starts vs. completions, you can create custom audiences based on "opened form" vs. "submitted form" to measure the difference. For website forms, you can fire separate pixel events for form start and form complete.
No. Meta Leads Center (free in Business Suite) and Google Sheets are other free options. You can also download leads directly from Ads Manager. Many popular CRMs have native integrations, and automation partners like Zapier and Make can connect Meta to almost any tool.
No, there is no limit.
When you set up the Google Sheets integration, new leads are automatically imported into the sheet when they submit the instant form. However, updating the lead status/stage (e.g., from "Created" to "Qualified" or "Purchased") must be done manually in the Google Sheet. The more accurately you keep your lead statuses updated, the better Meta can optimize your campaigns.
Currently the Google Sheets integration is available only for Instant Form leads. It does not work with website leads.
Meta can process statuses and events in different languages — they do not need to be in English. You can use any custom event names you'd like.
Currently Meta only accepts previous data up to 7 days. For simplicity, it is sometimes easier to just start fresh and collect all lead/stage data moving forward.
It doesn't make a huge difference. Some advertisers prefer a separate pixel for organizational purposes and to make analysis easier, but a single pixel can collect events from website, CRM, offline, and app sources. Meta will use the correct events based on the source and the type of ad campaign you are running.
If you already have a website pixel, you can use that same pixel for the Conversions API for CRM integration. A pixel can collect events from website, CRM, offline, and app. Based on how you set up your ad campaign and what you optimize towards, Meta will choose the correct events to utilize.
We recommend searching the web for your CRM name and "Meta/Facebook Integration" and checking the official CRM documentation. If there is no native integration, third-party tools like Make and Zapier provide connectors between many CRMs and Meta. Also check the Meta CAPI CRM Partners List for a list of popular integrations.
Yes! Rich creative forms can be optimized for volume or quality at the ad set level, just like other form types. Choosing "rich creative" as your form type gives you more visual customization options, and you can still select your preferred performance goal.
Gated content (like articles, white papers, pricing) and gated promos (like discount codes) are features specific to Meta Instant Forms. For website forms, you would implement gated content on your own website.
The Google Sheets integration for CAPI CRM uses a pixel/dataset to send the lead events back to Meta. When you set up the integration, you connect a pixel to the Google Sheet. The sheet then sends lead events (like status updates) through the Conversions API associated with that pixel. The pixel acts as the identifier for your data source.
Meta does not automatically de-duplicate leads across multiple form submissions. If the same person submits a form more than once, each submission is recorded as a separate lead. De-duplication would need to be handled in your CRM or lead management system.
Keep the greeting concise and value-focused. Clearly state what the user will get by filling out the form (e.g., "Get a free quote," "Download our pricing guide"). Set expectations for follow-up timing. Use your brand voice and include any trust signals (e.g., "Join 10,000+ businesses").
For messaging-based leads, you can use the Conversions API to send down-funnel conversion events (like "qualified lead" or "purchase") back to Meta, similar to how you would with form-based leads. This helps Meta's algorithm learn which users are most likely to become high-value customers. Consider using the Conversion Leads performance goal and integrating your CRM data so Meta can optimize for quality over volume.
The optimization happens at the ad account/campaign level. The pixel (or dataset) is the data source that collects and transmits events, but the learning and optimization are tied to your campaign settings, performance goals, and the ad set configuration. Meta's delivery system uses the event data from the pixel to inform its optimization models at the campaign level.
Language targeting in Meta is used as a filter — it targets users whose language settings match. However, Meta may use it as a strong signal rather than a hard restriction in some cases. For the most precise targeting, combine language settings with location targeting.
The Salesforce integration typically uses one pixel/dataset for the CAPI CRM connection. However, you can have multiple pixels in your ad account for different purposes. The Salesforce Conversion Leads App connects to one pixel at a time for sending CRM events back to Meta.
This feature is not available yet, but the feedback has been shared with the product team.
Regular email validation (beyond work email enforcement) is not available right now. Work email enforcement is available and can be enabled to require corporate email addresses.
Yes — if you connect your leads to a CRM or automation tool (like Zapier, Make, or HighLevel), you can set up automated email notifications for each new lead. Meta Leads Center in Business Suite also provides notifications. The Google Sheets integration can be combined with native Google Sheet notifications to trigger email alerts on new rows.
When creating a Lead ad in Ads Manager, you specifically choose if the objective is onsite/instant form leads or offsite/website leads. The reporting will show leads based on which objective you chose. The same pixel can collect website and instant form/CAPI CRM leads, but Meta will choose the correct events to utilize and optimize towards based on the source of the event and the type of ad you are running.
The Google Sheets integration is on the Facebook page/instant form level, so you really only need one Google Sheet per page. New tabs can automatically be created for each instant form that you create ads for.
Yes — when the lead moves from "created" to "car purchased," you need to update that in the Google Sheet (or whatever CRM you use). The more accurately you keep your leads updated, the better Meta can optimize your campaigns.
